AVIA 3101 Airline Management

Aims

This is a 6UOC course.
The objective of the course is for students to obtain an appreciation of the airline industry’s main drivers and to study the airline corporate planning process. The course will also emphasise group activity, business presentation skills and the ability to deliver a superior research assignment.

Learning Outcomes

Key elements of the course are:

  • A review of airline economics and the changing regulatory environment.
  • An examination of airline industry structure (past, current and future directions). This will involve an understanding of the important macro and micro decisions made by airline management. The tension between the Business planning process the operational environment is addressed.
  • The Business Planning and Strategic planning processes from both a generic and then an airline perspective.
  • Airline scheduling and airline fleet planning - studied in some detail.
  • Forecasting in airlines.
  • An introduction to airline financial analysis and management.
  • An outline of airline alliances and airline commercial agreements.
