Introduction to the Department "Our programs are designed with industry input to ensure industry relevance" Aviation brings people together and is a exciting growing industry. It is more than flying airlines. Airlines are losing money and some are failing. Recent events such as September 11 and SARS have had an enormous impact on aviation. The programs taught at UNSW Aviation look at how airlines are influenced by society and the events of global world. UNSW Aviation has identified a clear demand from the aviation industry for programs in the areas of flying and aviation management. To address these needs the Department is offering a range of programs. The Bachelor of Aviation is a career oriented program, integrating a core of academic study with aviation specific training. There are two stream within the three year degree program, the Flying Stream and Management Stream. In addition we also offer postgraduate coursework programs, specifically the Graduate Certificate in Aviation Management, the Graduate Diploma in Aviation Management and the Master of Science and Technology in Aviation. These programs are offered through distance education and have been specifically designed for students who are unable to attend weekly sessions at the university.
The MScTech in Aviation is targeted towards professional and managers who work in aviation related environments. Theses programs are available for applicants that do not have tertiary qualifications but have at least four years relevant professional experience. At UNSW Aviation, our aim is to produce graduates of the highest calibre, who qualifications are recognized throughout the world as being of superior quality and of industrial relevance. Our strength lies in its faculty/industry structure and its qualified and versatile team. Department staff are in constant dialogue with regulatory authorities and a wide cross section of aviation representatives. Teaching staff are expected to be able not just to refer to readings and case studies, but also to relate examples from their own personal experiences. The course variety and content has been established after industry consultation, and the courses written and coordinated by people with substantive industry experience. Graduates of the degree program have a clear recruitment edge, and demonstrate to potential employers a high level of standards, accomplishment and motivation. |
